ROMSA

The Rainbow Otago Medical Students Association (ROMSA) is here to support and advocate for our rainbow tauira. We also provide a place of support for medical students for anything rainbow-related. We aim to create a safe safe within the medical sphere in which students can be their most vibrant selves.

We host regular events open to all our rainbow and takatāpui whānau, including our allies and those questioning. We encourage you to keep and eye out throughout the year and join in!

You can keep up to date and join our whānau here!

We would love to hear from you, feel free to email us about feedback and suggestions, alongside any concerns or queries you may have.

We aim to work with the medical school to better our rainbow students’ experience in medicine, as well as supporting rainbow health teaching. If you have any ideas or comments on this please let us know!

President

Kia ora koutou!

I’m Newrea and currently in ELM3. I hail from Waiuku, South Auckland and came to Ōtepoti in 2023 to study HSFY.

Comics, cartoons, and 3+ hour-long youtube deep-dives have a grip on my soul so I’m down to chat about anything and everything!

If you have any questions or queries (especially about ROMSA) please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself or any of the team!

Secretary

Kia ora koutou!

Ko Hannah tōku ingua. I am currently an ELM3 student, originally from Pōneke (Wellington), and I am passionate about rainbow health and supporting those around me.

In my free time, you’re likely to find me running while belting out ‘Defying Gravity’, *quietly* snacking on chocolate bars in health sci library, or making my friends laugh in between lectures <3

Please feel free to reach out with any questions :))

Welfare Representative

Kia ora everyone!

I’m Charlotte and I will be your ROMSA Welfare Rep for 2025! I am currently an ELM3 student.

When I’m not consumed by uni work I can be found working through my never-ending TBR list, listening to music and spending time with friends.

If you have any welfare concerns, or just want to talk, please come and find me – I’m always happy to have a chat!

ROMSA Events Coordinator

Kia Ora e te ELM whānau!

I’m Imogene and I’m stoked to be your ROMSA events coordinator for 2025! I hope to bring our community together and spread pride throughout med with a variety of exciting events throughout the year.

When I’m not studying or with ROMSA, you can catch me (or occasionally Trev the Tradie) with the Medband or pottering around various local gigs and events.

If you have any ideas you’d like to see ROMSA have a crack at, or just wanna chat, come up and say hi!

I’m really excited to meet you all!

Treasurer

Kia ora e te whānau!

I’m Ky and I’m your ROMSA Treasurer for 2025! I’m an ELM3 from gaytown (Te Whanganui-a-Tara) and I’m super excited to meet you all!

Outside of med I’m known for being chronically overcommitted to extracurricular activities;

Taekwon-Do, choir, lion dance and Med Revue are some of my favourites!

If you see me around, don’t be afraid to say hi! I’m never too busy for a yap or a hug (or both).
